Thanks Julia

I have been inspired by the movie Julie and Julia to go through Julia Child's cookbook just like Julie. Ok, so not really. But it did inspire Rylee to at least buy the cookbook and allow us to have some fun trying to cook from it.
Last night we decided to try it out for the first time. After a long time looking through the book finding something that sounded good, we decided on fricassée de poulet à l'ancienne (old-fashioned chicken fricassee with wine-flavored cream sauce, onions and mushrooms), oignons glacés à blanc (white-braised onions), and pomme de terre sautées (potatoes sautéed in butter). So we wrote down what ingredients we needed and went to the store. Once we got back, we went straight to work. I made the pomme de terre sautées along with the oignons glacés à blanc while Rylee made the fricassée de poulet à l'ancienne.

The pomme de terre sautée didn't turn out like they were supposed to because we didn't have a big enough pan for them. So I did my best and sort of did my own thing and they still turned out pretty good.

The oignons glacés à blanc turned out to be my favorite part of the entire meal. Who knew little pearl onions cooking for 40 minutes would turn out to be my favorite part!

Mmm sautéed vegetables

Cutting up the chicken

The fricassée de poulet à l'ancienne was also a great success.

Finally after about 2 hours of cooking and the use of LOTS of butter, we were done!

They recommend wine to drink to go along with the meal so we felt like it wouldn't be legit if we didn't follow what it said..

Ok, so it was just cooking wine, but still.
(Don't worry, we didn't actually drink it. Just cooked with it.)

The whole dinner turned out to be so much better than I expected! Maybe I will consider going through the whole book sometime.
